Solar FAQ’s

SOLAR FAQ’S

Some frequently asked questions our installers encounter when people are purchasing a solar power system for their home.

1.) SHOULD MY HOME BE 100% SOLAR?

You do not need to be 100% solar or renewable to get the benefits of solar for your home or business.  Generally, the most cost effective application is to combine solar energy solutions with gas and electricity already provided to your home. Then set up your solar system to offset the most expensive electricity (in peak tariff periods) and purchase electricity from your local supplier when it’s cheapest (in off peak tariff periods).

2.) WILL THE AMOUNT OF POWER MY SOLAR SYSTEM IS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING BE DIFFERENT TO THE ACTUAL AMOUNT OF ELECTRICITY IT GENERATES?

Solar systems are often described in terms of the amount of power they are capable of producing in a given instant (measured in watts or kilowatts).

The most important factor to take into account, however, is the amount of actual electricity the system is expected to generate during its lifetime (measured in kilowatt-hours). When compared to other brands, Advanced Solar technology’s handpicked solar panels produce the most electricity in a range of conditions, over the lifetime of your solar energy system.

3.) ARE ALL SOLAR POWER SYSTEMS GENERALLY THE SAME?

Solar power systems are made up of the same components; mounting systems, inverters and modules but it’s important to be aware that the technology and efficiency can differ widely between manufacturers.

Advanced Solar technology’s handpicked multiple product awards and high industry ratings prove that our products have one of the highest efficiencies and quality in the market.

4.) HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE UNTIL MY SOLAR POWER SYSTEM HAS PAID FOR ITSELF?

With current electricity prices, government rebates available and solar system prices it takes approximately 3 – 5 years before your investment in solar is paid for through your electricity savings.  Your solar panels will continue to produce electricity for about 25 years though, which leaves you considerable time to enjoy the savings afterward!

It is important to be aware though that there are different sized systems and the cost and payback period of your PV solar investment will largely depend on the system size, its performance and your use of electrical appliances.

5.) WHAT KIND OF WARRANTY DOES ADVANCED SOLAR TECHNOLOGY’S HANDPICKED PRODUCTS OFFER?

With all our systems you receive a 5 to 10 year inverter warranty and have the option to extend it to 10 years if you wish. In addition you will receive a minimum of 10 years manufacturing defect warranty on the panels and a performance warranty which is up to 25 years, one of the best in the market.

6.) HOW DOES THE TARIFF SYSTEM WORK?

Any surplus power that your system generates but you don’t use is directed through your electricity meter to the Electricity Grid. If you have chosen a grid-connect system, which is the common option, then your electricity supplier will pay you for this surplus power.  Generally this is paid at a lower amount then it charges you to purchase electricity, this is why we need to tailor the solar system to your specific energy requirements.

There are two different types of Tariffs; Gross and Net:

With a gross feed-in tariff, you receive credits for the total amount of electricity your system produces, including the electricity used in your home.

With net feed-in tariffs, you are only paid for any surplus energy that’s fed back into the grid.

The tariff you choose really depends on the rates that apply in your state, and how much electricity you use in your home, and when.

7.)  WHAT WOULD BE THE COST OF A SOLAR SYSTEM?

The cost will be totally dependent on your preference (brand and style of the panels and other components) and the Kilowatt size of the Solar PV System needed to deliver the electricity production that you desire. Rebates vary from State to State and are also subject to change at short notice so for up-to-date prices and our current specials please see our rebate information page.

8.) HOW DO I QUALIFY FOR THE GOVERNMENT REBATES?

All Advanced Solar technology’s certified installers meet the requirements for you to qualify for the applicable Government rebate.

In case of the rebates being reduced, as has happened already, you need to have the installation (panels on your roof ) completed on or before the specified date by the governing body to qualify for the previous rebate; after the specified date you will qualify for the updated rebates.
